Hey everyone! I've decided to start this new feature called Cover Reveal Thursday! This won't be a recurring meme because covers aren't necessarily reveal every week. Basically, whenever a cover is revealed from one of my favourite series/authors (or a debut author's book that I'm looking forward to), on the Thursday of that week, I'll post it here and discuss it a little because I am definitely one of those people that judges books by their covers.
Hope you enjoy!
This week, TWO covers from my favourite series were released: Martina Boone's Persuasion and Claudia Gray's Ten Thousand Skies Above You. See them below!
Title: Persuasion by Martina BooneThe cover: First of all - The Heirs of Watson Island is quickly becoming my new favourite series. I haven't fell in love with a book like this since Beth Revis' Across the Universe Series. The story is just so well-written and interesting! Now, just look at that cover. It's gorgeous and it looks like there's going to be even more of an element of magic/paranormalcy in the sequel than in Compulsion, which I am totally okay with. I was super excited for Persuasion before today, but now I can definitely say that October 28th feel waaaay too far away! Gorgeous cover, I really can't wait to have a physical copy in my hands! 5/5 Stars
Series: The Heirs of Watson Island, book #2 (review for book #1 here)
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: October 28th 2015
Synopsis (may contain spoilers if you haven't read Compulsion):
Grieving the death of her godfather and haunted by her cousin Cassie’s betrayal, Barrie returns from a trip to San Francisco to find the Watson plantation besieged by reporters and ghost-hunters. Some are hoping to see the ancient spirit who sets the river on fire each night, while others are chasing rumors of a stolen shipment of Civil War gold that may be hidden at Colesworth Place. Chaos descends as Cassie hires a team of archeologists to excavate beneath the mansion ruins. But more is buried there than treasure.
A mysterious, magical man appears at Watson’s Landing, claiming the key to the Watson and Beaufort gifts and the Colesworth curse also lies beneath the mansion. With a mix of threats and promises, he engages Barrie and Cassie in a midnight visit, but the spell he conjurs has potentially deadly consequences.
While Barrie and dreamy Eight Beaufort struggle to make sense of the escalating danger and their growing feelings for each other, Barrie has to figure out not only whom to trust, but which gift is more reliable—Eight’s or her own. With millions of dollars and the fate of the founding families at stake, she must choose between what she feels deep in her heart and what will keep her loved ones safe.
(Also, I recently joined Martina Boone's Street Team, so if you've loved Compulsion as much as I did, consider joining, it's super fun! You can sign up here)
Title: A Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia GrayThe cover: I'll be honest straight away - the biggest reason I was attracted to the series is because of the cover. Yes, the story is super interesting, definitely, but I don't think I would have ever thought of picking up this series had it not been for the beautiful cover. And when I say beautiful, I mean gorgeous. I love how the Firebird series' covers reflect some of the dimensions Marguerite and the others visit is really cool, especially because they give you an idea as to what is going to happen in the book (war-torn San Francisco? Sounds super cool!) The way the two dimensions seem to reflect each other also helps show what the book is about. The design on Ten Thousand Skies Above You is just as gorgeous and just as clever as A Thousand Pieces of You's. This cover is absolutely breathtaking, I love it!! 5/5 Stars
Series: Firebird, book #2 (Review of book #1 here)
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: November 3rd 2015
Synopsis (may contain spoilers for book one):
Marguerite Caine has done the impossible, traveling to alternate dimensions with the Firebird—the brilliant invention of her parents, her boyfriend, Paul, and their friend Theo. But she has also caught the attention of enemies willing to kidnap, blackmail, and even kill to use the Firebird for themselves.
When Paul’s soul is splintered into four pieces—pieces that are trapped within Pauls in other dimensions—Marguerite will do anything, and travel anywhere, to save him. But the price of his safe return is steep. If she doesn’t sabotage her parents in multiple universes, Paul will be lost forever
Unwilling to sacrifice her family, Marguerite enlists the brilliant Theo to help. The two forge a plan to save Paul and the Firebird, but succeeding means outsmarting a genius and risking not only their lives but also the lives of their counterparts in every other dimension.
Their mission takes them to the most dangerous universes yet: a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each leap brings Marguerite closer to saving Paul—but her journey reveals dark truths that lead her to doubt the one constant she’s found between the worlds: their love for each other.
